News: Residents Ask Gov’t to Realign LRT3 Tract in Section 7, Shah Alam

Jan 8, 2019

Residents of Section 7 in Shah Alam want the Ministry of Transport (MoT) to realign the LRT3 tract in their area so that it won’t pass through the high-density residential estates and a school, reported The Star.

“We do not want the alignment running through our neighbourhood, and that is it,” said 55-year-old retired soldier Davu Dars Arikrishnan, who is among the early settlers in the area formerly known as Midlands Estate.

He said this during a special engagement session between project delivery partner George Kent and the residents of Section 7 that was organised by Shah Alam city councillor Danial Al Rashid Haron Aminar Rashid and Kota Anggerik Assemblyman Najwan Halimi.

However, a panel from George Kent – that includes General Manager for Corporate Communications Ravindran Raman Kutty and Director of Infrastructure Mohamad Amjad – explained that re-aligning the LRT tract in Section 7 will lead to additional cost and delay the project.

However, the residents insist that it should be re-aligned, particularly the portion that will pass through a playground in the gated-and-guarded community of Jalan Plumbum.

Jalan Plumbum resident Nurziha Jailuddin, who purchased a home near the playground at a higher price, said the authorities disregarded their rights as property owners.

“They will close the playground for the next six years to develop the LRT3, so where are our children supposed to play?”

“The developers say the children can play under the tracks once the line is ready, but by then our children will be too old,” she pointed out.

Moreover, some teachers and parents with kids at SJK(T) Ladang Midlands are opposing plans to build an LRT3 station adjacent to the school. The school’s Parent-Teacher Association Chairman Elangovan Muniandy also revealed that the school was not informed about the rail line’s nearness to the learning institution.

According to Kota Anggerik assemblyman Najwan Halimi, they have officially sent a letter to MoT to explain the residents’ issues and included realignment proposals. However, the ministry has not yet responded.

At present, the LRT3 work package in Section 7 is 10 percent complete, with site preparation works already ongoing.
